EVOLUTION
320 Turbo Low-Profile “Team Schnitzer, No. 55” DRM 1980. In 1980, driver Hans Joachim Stuck had turned his back on Formula 1 and focused on the German Racing Championships in the BMW 320 Turbo in its low-slung version. With their 1.4-liter turbo engines and nearly 450 PS, the new cars dominated the naturally aspirated engines. The most famous of these races was the Small Division event at the Norisring in 1980, during which, on Lap 6, Hans Heyer’s Lancia Beta Montecarlo suffered broken brake discs and, after rolling over multiple times, was reduced to a pile of wreckage. Stuck, on the other hand, finished in second place in this BMW at the end of the year.
